the lowdown on microneedling

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that uses a device with fine, surgical needles to create microscopic punctures and channels in the skin. This signals the body's natural healing response, leading to the production of collagen and elastin.

Microneedling can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone. These channels can also enhance the absorption of quality ingredients in skincare, allowing them to reach deeper in the layers of the skin versus applied topically.

before and after

are you a candidate for microneedling?

Microneedling doesn't play favourites with skin types or tones. It's so gentle that even those with sensitive skin can typically join the party. We'll be happy to discuss any specific concerns during your initial consultation.

what to expect during a microneedling treatment at zest

Before jumping into any in-clinic treatment, our expert providers always conduct a full 360-degree consultation.

Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied to minimize any discomfort. You will feel the handpiece vibrate while it lightly glides over your skin.

The microneedling device masterfully nudges your skin into renewing its top layer with its ultra-fine needles. The reward? The unveiling of fresh, youthful skin that's been patiently waiting underneath, ready to shine with a radiant glow.

how long does a microneedling treatment take?

The length of the treatment session typically lasts roughly 30 minutes.

pre and post care for microneedling treatment

To set the stage for your microneedling treatment, start with a good, deep cleanse. This will sweep away any grime, oil, or makeup. Avoiding exfoliating products for a few days before the treatment to prevent skin irritation.

Before your appointment, play it safe and dodge the sun's rays. If you're worried about discomfort, consider taking a pain reliever like ibuprofen about an hour before your session.

After the treatment, you may experience redness, tenderness to the touch, and swelling, much like a sunburn. Some have also experienced flaking skin; while it's tempting, don't pick! These are all normal side effects and are to be expected. The effects will subside in 2 to 5 days.

To ensure your skin stays healthy and glowing, it's important to steer clear of activities that may lead to sweating and pore opening. Be mindful of protecting your skin for the initial 72 hours by avoiding intense workouts at the gym, swimming pools, and saunas.

combination treatments

Pairing your microneedling treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy takes your skin wellness journey to another level. This dynamic duo works together to amplify the natural benefits of both treatments, bringing you closer to your skin goals at a faster pace.

The PRP treatment supercharges the healing process initiated by microneedling, nourishing your skin with a concentration of your body's own growth factors. This accelerates cell regeneration and collagen production, resulting in even more noticeable improvements in skin texture, firmness, and overall radiance.
microneedling (2)
Microneedling is slightly uncomfortable but not painful, especially if you aren't afraid of needles. You will feel tiny pricks on your skin and numbing cream can be applied to help with any discomfort.
While you can return to your regular activities and work the same day, you will have some recovery that can span 2 to 5 days. During this time, you may experience redness, swelling, and crusting. Don't pick! It's just your skin doing its thing.

Microneedling is a bit like a fitness routine for your skin - the results stack up over time. It's all about sparking the birth of fresh collagen.

You can safely repeat the treatment every 4 to 6 weeks. The total number of sessions are tailored to your unique needs. Remember, patience pays off, and, in this case, the reward is smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.

You can expect the full results of your first microneedling treatment within 1 to 2 weeks of your appointment.
