the lowdown on ipl treatment

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a non-invasive and highly effective treatment that uses a rainbow of high-intensity pulses of light to target and treat a wide range of skin issues. The most popular areas to treat are sun-damaged skin in the form of pigmentation, stubborn acne and rosacea.

Our handheld device delivers a broad spectrum of light to your skin, heating the pigment and blood vessels, causing them to break down and be naturally absorbed by your body. Think of it as a colourful light show for your skin, each colour targeting a different skin concern.

are you a candidate for ipl treatment?

This non-invasive treatment is all about tackling various skin conditions. While anyone looking to boost their skin's appearance can think about giving IPL therapy a whirl, there are a few things that make someone an ideal candidate:

Your Skin Tone: IPL tends to work its magic best on light to medium skin tones. Why? The contrast between the darker pigmented spots and the lighter skin helps the IPL device target specific areas like a pro. But if you've got a darker skin tone, you should tread carefully since IPL may not tell the difference between the pigmented spots and the surrounding skin, which
could mean discoloration.

Your Skin Conditions: If you've got sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, or certain types of acne, IPL therapy could be your new best friend. It's also a handy helper for reducing the appearance of large pores, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Your Age: Age is just a number with IPL therapy, but it tends to work wonders on mature skin showing signs of aging or sun damage. But that's not to say the younger crowd can't get in on the action – folks with severe acne or rosacea can also see benefits.

what to expect during an ipl treatment at zest

Before any in-clinic treatment, our treatment providers complete a 360-degree consultation. Before your first treatment, we start by taking your medical photos.

Your treatment will begin with cleansing the skin. You will also be given protective eyewear to wear during the treatment to shield your eyes.

Afterwards, a cooling gel will be applied to your skin to help protect it and enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. You will feel the chill of our high-tech handheld device as it's placed on your skin and activated, emitting a series of bright pulses of light.

how long does a ipl treatment take?

The procedure typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, and patients may experience some redness and swelling afterward. However, these side effects are usually mild and resolve within a few days.

pre and post care for ipl treatment

It is important to follow pre and post-care to maximize your results. It's essential to avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before and 2 weeks after your IPL treatment. Sun exposure can increase the risk of side effects and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

Certain medications, such as blood-thinning medications and retinoids, can increase the risk of bruising and other side effects. It's important to inform your practitioner of any medications you are taking before your IPL treatment.

Some skincare products, such as exfoliants or products containing acids, can irritate the skin and increase the risk of side effects. Avoid using these products for at least one week before and one week after your treatment.

Avoid activities that may irritate the skin, such as hot showers, saunas, and exercise for 24-48 hours after the treatment.

If you experience redness or swelling after the treatment, apply a cold compress to the affected area to reduce inflammation.

You might feel a slight sensation of heat or a little snap, but don't worry - most people find it totally painless.
It takes no longer than 2 days to recover from your IPL treatment before you see your glowing results, but you can still maintain your regular routine immediately following your treatment so long as you avoid prolonged sun exposure and excessive sweating.

Adequate hydration not only helps your skin stay plump and nourished, but it also helps to prolong the effects of the HydraFacial, keeping your skin looking its absolute best.

Since flaking can last up to 10 days, you will see your final results 10 days following your IPL treatment. All other side effects or skin sensitivities will disappear simultaneously, so you can enjoy new, glowing skin.

It is important for you to disclose and share your complete medical history with your service provider, which includes supplements, prescribed medication and lifestyle to ensure you are a candidate for IPL treatment.

IPL may not be safe for patients who are breastfeeding, pregnant, have autoimmune disorders, improper wound healing, some skin conditions, recent sun exposure (in the last month), and are on certain medications.

If you struggle with certain skin concerns and want a non-invasive, quick treatment that will give you long-lasting results, an IPL treatment may be a great option for you.
