the history of CoolSculpting

The science of Coolsculping started in the late '70s with scientist Dr. Dieter Manstein MD and R. Rox Anderson MD at Harvard University. When they observed that some children who ate popsicles developed dimples in their cheeks. This led to the realization that ice can selectively damage small pockets of fat cells. This idea that cold can target fat cells—without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue was the insight behind cryolipolysis, the science on which the CoolSculpting® procedure is based.

who is it for

The ideal candidate for CoolSculpting is someone who maintains a healthy diet and active lifestyle with localized pinchable fat. Most of all, the ideal candidate has realistic expectations and a desire for noticeable contouring of their area of concern. 

who is it not for?

The CoolSculpting procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. The CoolSculpting® procedure is not a weight loss tool or a treatment for obesity. This treatment is not suitable for people with extreme laxity or saggy skin tissues. As with any medical procedure, ask your healthcare practitioner if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.

 

 
how does it work?

During a CoolSculpting procedure, an applicator is applied to the area of concern, you may feel a mild vacuum pressure between the cooling panels. The fat cells that are frozen will go though the cyrolipolysis stage where they will gradually destroy and leave the body through the body’s natural elimination. The treated area will feel numb and a gentle massage will be applied once the applicators are removed.


 

 

what can I expect during my treatment?

All CoolSculpting treatments are performed by our professionally trained CoolSculpting experts, under the supervision of our Medical Directors.

Your treatment designer will select the appropriate applicators that match your contouring goals - CoolMini, CoolAdvantage, CoolSmooth, and CoolMax.

Our experts are fully trained to keep your skin and body safe.

To prepare the skin of the treated area, we apply a gel pad that acts as a protective layer. Once ready, the technician will apply the applicator and secure it in place. Once the CoolSculpting machine is ready, you’ll feel your skin being gently sucked into the applicator chamber. The temperature will drop below freezing which is the optimal environment to freeze and kill fat cells. When your fat cells die in your body, your immune system will safely and slowly eat it up and get rid of it. There is no risk from the released fat on your cardiovascular, cholesterol or lipid system.

We offer every size of CoolSculpting applicators available at our clinics, starting as low as $750 and up to $1500 per cycle. will one treatment work?

One size does not fit all, and we celebrate that! We customize your CoolSculpting treatment plan to help you achieve your desired outcome. In most cases, a minimum of two rounds of treatment are required to achieve desired results.

Is coolSculpting safe?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that has been approved by FDA. The risks are very low in comparison to that of a surgical procedure such as liposuction. No needles, no knives, and no recovery. Since this treatment utilizes an automated machine, it eliminates the risk of human error.

how long until I see results?

Maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle is important in achieving your full results. Some patients may start to see results as early as 3 weeks. You will start to see the most results after 2 months from your initial treatment. At 4-6 months your body will continue to flush the fat cells from your body, progressively revealing your full results.

risks and side effects

During the procedure, you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations may subside as the area becomes numb.

Following the procedure, typical side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can persist for up to several weeks. There may be a sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental (under the chin) treatment. These effects are temporary and generally resolved within days or weeks.

Though rare, some additional side effects such as paradoxical hyperplasia, late onset pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms, subcutaneous induration, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur.

The first few minutes of your treatment, the treatment area will typically feel a strong cooling sensation from the applicators. You will feel some pulling as the suction from the applicators is applied. After the applicators are removed, you may feel some tingling as the area will be massaged for 2 minutes.

recovery

There is little to zero downtime after getting a CoolSculpting treatment. Patients can resume their regular daily activities. You may experience some swelling, redness, bruising, and or numbness after your treatment, and through the recovery period, this can last days, to weeks.

 

are the results permanent?

Poor diet and unhealthy lifestyles will lead to weight gaining and will negatively impact your results. The fat cells are expelled from the body, but that does not prevent weight gain after your treatment. This will be the patient’s responsibility to maintain their results. This is not just the beginning of your new body, but a new lifestyle as well!
